Mortality rate from cardiovascular disease before the age of 75
Cardiovascular diseases are a group of diseases that includes various diseases, among which the most important and most common are high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, heart attack, heart failure, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
We do not have the exact number of people suffering from cardiovascular diseases in Slovenia. Mortality from cardiovascular disease reflects both the frequency and severity of the disease as well as the organization and efficiency of the health service. In Slovenia, approximately 7,500 people die from cardiovascular diseases annually, which represents more than a third of all deaths. Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of mortality in Slovenia, considering all ages and both sexes together. Most deaths from cardiovascular disease occur in older age groups, but among people who die before the age of 65, cardiovascular disease ranks second only to cancer. Over the past 30 years, mortality from cardiovascular disease has declined significantly, even for people under 65.
With a combination of effective measures at the level of the individual, the immediate environment and the wider society, we can influence the reduction or later occurrence of cardiovascular diseases and, consequently, the reduction or later mortality of the population due to these diseases.
The CVD mortality rate describes mortality from CVD before the age of 75 per 100,000 population in an observed calendar year.
An age-standardized rate is calculated, which enables mutual comparison of populations with different age structures.
Unlike the standard calculation of mortality by usual place of residence, for the purpose of display in Health in the municipalities, the municipality of the last permanent residence is taken into account. If there is no permanent residence in the official records, the last temporary residence is taken into account.
Rate per 100,000 inhabitants.
The standardized mortality rate from cardiovascular diseases is the ratio between the number of deaths from cardiovascular diseases before the age of 75 in the observed calendar year and the number of inhabitants aged 0 to 74 inclusive in the middle of the same year, multiplied by 100,000.
Disease categories according to the IKB-10 classification, which are included in the calculation, are I00-I99.
Mortality from cardiovascular disease
The direct standardization method is used to calculate the age-standardized rate, where the Slovenian population from 2014 is used as the standard population.
The publications show the average of several consecutive years.

The deceased are classified by municipality according to their last place of permanent residence. If there is no permanent residence, they are classified by temporary residence. This is to a large extent correcting the impact on mortality by municipality that the registration of temporary residence in the period before death at the temporary address of the Home for the Elderly in another municipality has.
In the 2016, 2017 and 2018 publications, mortality is shown by usual residence.
